Mingyang secures 306MW order for onshore wind projects in the Philippines

Date: 2024.02.23
Manila, the Philippines, May 13, 2023

Mingyang Smart Energy Group Limited (hereinafter referred to as "Mingyang") has secured a 306MW order from Singaporean renewable energy company Vena Energy for the Talim 212.5 MW and the Sembrano 93.75 MW onshore wind power projects in the Philippines. The projects, located in the Province of Rizal, will be the country’s largest onshore wind projects and will feature Chinese wind turbines for the first time.

The order includes the supply, transportation, installation and commissioning of 49 MySE 6.25-172 wind turbines as well as a long-term O&M service agreement for the two projects. Commissioning is planned for late 2024. Once installed, the projects will feature the most power wind turbines in the Philippines.

The Philippines has suffered from severe power shortages and high electricity costs due to long-term dependence on imported fossil fuels and growing energy demand. To address these challenges, the Philippine government has increased its support for renewable energy and aims to achieve a 50% share of renewable energy in its power structure by 2040, with wind power accounting for approximately 11.8 GW.

In January of this year, during his state visit to Beijing, Philippines President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with a delegation of Chinese company representatives and held talks with Mingyang's Chairman and CEO Zhang Chuanwei. President Marcos stated that the Philippines' demand for new energy is growing, and he looks forward to Chinese leading companies working together with the Philippines to promote clean energy development in the Philippines.

With this contract, Mingyang has made official entry into the Philippine market and has reinforced its market position in the Asia Pacific regions, leveraging its reliable wind energy solutions and strong local partnerships. The company is committed to contributing to the Philippine government’s 2030 decarbonization goal, and promoting clean energy cooperation between China and the Philippines, and making clean energy more accessible worldwide.
